Welcome to PLEASANT PAWS Dog Training!

We offer private training and behavioral consultations for pet dogs in the Greater Hartford area.  We also currently offer group classes for young puppies at Beckett and Associates Veterinary Services in Glastonbury, CT and other group classes for adult dogs at Wags- A Dog Playcare in West Hartford.

PLEASANT PAWS emphasizes positive reinforcement training and follows the "LIMA" principle.  This means that we use the Least Invasive and Minimally Aversive method of training that is successful for you and your pet.  We use a variety of methods and will work with you to decide what will work best for you and your pet.  By using positive/reward based training, you will learn to notice your dog's good behavior and reinforce it instead of just focusing on the unwanted behavior.  To reinforce the desired behavior we will use treats, praise, petting, toys, clicker training, or anything else that motivates your dog.  Many behavior problems are the result of the dog not being taught what is appropriate behavior for living in a human household.  Many of the "problems" that dogs have are really normal dog behaviors that we humans find inappropriate.  We will show you how to teach your dogs when and where certain behaviors are appropriate and also to teach them desired alternatives to behaviors that are prohibited.

The relationship between you and your dog should be one of mutual respect, trust, and love.  We do not need to dominate or harshly punish our dogs to get results.  We do not want our dogs to live in fear of what we might do to them.  We want them to love being with us and behave because we have taught them what is acceptable behavior.  Pleasant Paws believes that through effective communication, positive training, leadership, and management we can help you and your pet have fun learning and the results will make your lives together more enjoyable!
